Link and Tetra reside in a flood-ravaged Hyrule known as the Great Sea, and embark on a voyage aboard Tetra's pirate vessel. During their journey, they stumble upon the Ghost Ship, and after Tetra boards the ship, she screams for assistance. In an attempt to reach her, Link slips and tumbles into the sea, and washes up on a nearby island where he is awakened by a fairy named Ciela. While exploring the island, Link discovers the Phantom Hourglass, which contains the Sands of Hours, and encounters an elderly man named Oshus. Oshus offers to assist Link in reuniting with Tetra and finding the Ghost Ship. To aid him on his mission, Link enlists Captain Linebeck's assistance, and their team voyages to various islands using the S. S. Linebeck. After scouring the Great Sea, Link learns that he can find the Spirits of Courage, Wisdom, and Power by uncovering maps and clues hidden within the Temple of the Ocean King. This will help him in locating the Ghost Ship.
