During the Edo period, Japan faced an unexpected invasion from extraterrestrial beings referred to as the "Amanto." The samurai fought hard to defeat them, but it was an impossible task to accomplish. Thus, the Shogun reluctantly agreed to surrender, leading to a fragile treaty between the Shogunate and the Amanto. This treaty had a colossal impact on Japan, prohibiting the use of swords and utterly extinguishing the samurai spirit. Nevertheless, one man, determined to rekindle his samurai legacy, refused to let his spirit die. Gintoki Sakata, an idiosyncratic character wielding a wooden sword, makes a living by performing miscellaneous tasks. He is accompanied by Shinpachi Shimura, his understudy, Kagura, a powerful alien, and a massive dog named Sadaharu. Together, these characters jointly operate the Yorozuya business, often engaging in bizarre and comical incidents. Furthermore, the manga series features several one-shot stories like "Dandelion," "Shirokuro," "13," and "Bankara-san ga Tooru," published in volumes 1, 2, 24, and 38, respectively.
