Fumi Nishioka is an apprentice "Sweeper," a person who cleanses negative emotions from human hearts, who works together with fellow Sweeper Kyuutarou Horikita and his family. Before meeting them, she was homeless, and everywhere she went, people treated her like she was cursed. But the Horikitas—especially Kyuutarou—changed that, and gave her a place where she truly belongs. However, as the Horikitas are shocked to realize, a great yet terrible power lies dormant within Fumi's body, which can be used either for good or evil. Can Fumi control it, or will it end up controlling her?
Upon discovering that her senior, Yuuki "Senpai" Hisamizu, was attending the challenging Minami High School, Ayumi "Kouhai" Yurino felt her current academic standing wouldn't suffice for the entrance exam. Nevertheless, Senpai offered words of encouragement and coaching if she succeeded. After a year, Senpai encountered Kouhai who had gained admission to the school as a first-year student. However, he noticed that his junior was now making advances towards him! But as promised, they shared amusing, awkward and even amorous experiences together.
Setsu Sawamura is a teenager skilled in playing the Shamisen, a traditional Japanese musical instrument that is similar to a guitar. His grandfather, a renowned Shamisen player, nurtured his talent while he was growing up with his older brother Wakana. Setsu's life turned bleak following his grandfather's demise, which prompted him to quit high school and hitchhike in Tokyo, with the exception of playing his beloved Shamisen. Fortunately, his mother, Umeko, a rich and successful woman, intervened and sent Setsu back to high school. Setsu initially refused to shape up, but with his mother's support, he rediscovered his love for the Shamisen. In 2012, the manga won the Kodansha Manga Award for Shounen and received a nomination for the 23rd Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
